Johnson & Johnson Sales and Logistics Company, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is currently recruiting for a Manager, Assortment - Center of Excellence located in Skillman, NJ.

The Manager, Assortment is accountable for facilitating J&J Consumer Group’s achievement of OGSM by developing and deploying an internal and external sku optimization strategy and associated process.  The internal strategy will consist of leading a cross GBU/cross functional team to develop a best practice portfolio management process and associated tools that takes company, customer and consumer into consideration and drives to increased sku performance and productivity.  The external strategy will consist of developing an industry leading sku optimization process and associated tools.  Responsibilities will include utilizing data and insights to develop and test predictive models and validation tools to determine optimal product mix.  Additionally, the Manager, Assortment is responsible for the development of best practice product assortment strategies within J&J Consumer Group and collaborates regularly with promotions, display, and merchandising teams in order to gain alignment with product assortment strategies. 

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  Develop sku priority processes, align across GBU’s and deploy internally and with customer teams; Develop and manage internal SKU Optimization process for Sales during IBP/New Item processes using “SKU Rationalization” tool; Develop and manage external retail SKU Assortment tool that drives category sales and profits - “RichMix”; Provide training on SKU Rationalization and RichMix tools to appropriate user groups; Develop consistent processes for sku optimization and assist CFT’s ad GBU’s in developing custom assortment tools where necessary; Conduct research to gain an understanding of the sales success of products based on size available and on customer channel in which products are sold; Determine and make recommendations regarding best product selection strategies based on Customer type and store channel to meet the needs of the Customer and Company business objectives; Visit retail stores to gain information around product assortment and selection, size availability, and product groupings; Interface with Shelf team in order to create visual merchandising displays aligned with product assortment strategies to maximize sales potential; Conduct research and benchmarking activities in order to develop best practice product assortment strategies across all product categories and customer types; Develop validation tools to determine effectiveness of predictive models and “fine tune” them.; Partner with MRD and Insights teams to ensure that all supporting research (Consumer Decision Trees, predictive models, etc.) are up to date and are reflected in J&J’s assortment tool portfolio; Partner with Retail Marketing, Category Management and Shopper Insights teams to assist in assortment strategies for any platform development initiatives.

A minimum of a 4-yr degree is required.  A minimum of 6 years prior experience in Consumer Packaged Goods sales environment, including prior experience in direct customer sales, business analytics, and/or customer or category marketing is required.  Broad experience across sales, operations, finance, marketing and category roles is a plus.  Experience working with IRI and/or ACNielsen is required.

Must have strong strategic perspective and ability to tactically drive process through an organization.  Advanced knowledge and expertise with syndicated scanner data (IRI or ACNielsen) including causal measures and what impacts them.  Must have exposure to and experience in working with Consumer Decision Trees and other research techniques.  Able to positively influence decision-makers up and down one or more levels, with and without authority, to achieve business objectives and ensure a fully-aligned customer/company business plan.  Recognized as a leader by customers, team members and internal business partners.  Demonstrates effective communication and negotiation skills to solve problems, gain agreement with and inform others, while targeting long-term objectives.  Uses facts and data analysis to identify good options and make/implement good decisions.  Ability to create fact-based presentations to translate sales objectives into customer strategy and business plans around distribution, merchandising, promotion and planogram placement.  Ability to devise and deliver persuasive presentations, based on data-driven insights and facts, to gain support for business strategies or initiatives, both with customers and internal business partners.  Demonstrates and effectively applies consumer industry and cross-category knowledge & expertise.  Serves as liaison between the customer, team counterparts and internal support team members to foster a culture of growth and collaboration.  Represents the face of the company to the trade and the voice of customer to the company for assortment initiatives.  Penetrates the appropriate customer and internal functions to achieve maximum results on sales objectives.  Acts with urgency to make the most of opportunities, addresses customer needs and accomplishes goals and objectives including the launch of new items with excellence on speed to market and store penetration with maximum shelf presence for the opportunity.  Ability to complete projects and follow processes to manage results including volume achievement.  Ability to plan tactics to support broader company and brand objectives.  Ability to manage funds and resources for the greatest return on investment for the company.  Able to identify and assess risk and prioritize competing demands for resources of time and money and apply resources to maximize profitable sales.
